BROWNSVILLE – Usually fighters shine when they are in front of their home town fans. For Brownsville native Sergio “Time to Shine” Perales, that notion came true as he captured the Texas Bantamweight Title with a unanimous decision victory over Mexico’s Gabriel Rangel in the main event Saturday night as a part of Brownsville’s Finest sponsored by Marines Promotions. All three judges scored the fight 79-73 for Perales while canvaswarriors.com gave Perales all eight rounds (80-72).

“There was no way I was going to let my hometown fans down and left the title in Brownsville,” said Perales, who improves to 10-0. “Rangel is a tough fighter and I threw everything I had at him, nd he never went down. He stung me a few times as well, but I was able to recover and connect with some good combination shots.”

TULSA, OKLAHOMA – “The Kid” Carson Jones finally became a man in the boxing world after he captured the WBC Continental Americas Light Middleweight title Thursday night after scoring a knockout victory over Michie Munoz in the main event of a charity event in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“This is the best feeling ever and all of the hard work I have put into this has finally paid off,” said Jones, who improves to 21-7 with 13 KO’s. “Hopefully winning this title will propel my ranking into the top 10 and get me some bigger fights down the road.”

Jones worked the game plan to perfection as he wore down Munoz (22-3) with thunderous body shots and eventually caught him with a left uppercut to the body which stunned Munoz. The referee finally stopped the fight at the 1:40 mark of the 10th round as he felt Munoz had enough.

HARLINGEN – When Harlingen’s Eric Molina and San Antonio’s Osvaldo Martinez step in the ring Friday night at the Casa De Amistad, the fight name should be changed from “Texas Title Belt” to the “Battle of the Monsters.”

Molina (9-1, 8 KO’s) and Martinez (5-4, 3 KO’s) will duke it out for Molina’s Texas Cruiserweight Title in the eight-round main event of the Budweiser Boxing Series and Anthony Cavazos, president of Cavazos Boxing, said that it is going to be a war.

“Come Friday night, two monsters are going to battle it out for all the marbles,” said Cavazos at the press conference at Club Five-0 in Harlingen. “Both Osvaldo and Eric have been training hard and neither one of them are going to lie down.”

HARLINGEN – Even after scoring his third round technical knockout victory over San Antonio’s Osvaldo Martinez in the main event at the Casa De Amistad, Lyford’s Eric Molina couldn’t take credit for it.

“The Lord won this fight for me,” said Molina, who improves to 10-1 with nine knockouts. “I left it all in his hands, and he came through for me. He definitely works in mysterious ways.”

Molina came out firing early on in the fight as he dropped Martinez (5-5-1) in the first round as he caught him with a right hook to the face. Martinez went crashing down to the canvas again as Molina caught him with a straight right hand in the second round. Martinez got up staggering after the knockdown and was able to beat the ten count and avoided anymore punishment as he was saved by the bell.

MCALLEN -- Mission native Isaac Torres idolized Oscar De La Hoya ever since he was a kid and hoped that one day he would be able to meet the “Golden Boy.”

Even though he didn’t actually get to meet De La Hoya, he was able to represent Texas as a member of Team De La Hoya.

“Back in 2007, I got an opportunity to fight for team De La Hoya in California,” said Torres. “They needed a 119-pounder to fight in the world championships and I stepped up to the plate. One day while training, my coach told me that De La Hoya showed up and was asking who the Texas kid in the finals was. He told Oscar about me and he said that he wanted to wish me good luck.”
