“Puro Party” Pete Balderas

After Thursday’s press conference at the McAllen Convention Center, I followed California native and Top Rank prospect Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios, ranked the #9 lightweight in the world, to a private workout at the Mission Boxing Gym.
Rios’s sole focus while in the “City of Palms” is to introduce his opponent, 12th ranked Jose Luis Teron of New York to a world of pain, courtesy of “La Colonia” Boxing Gym in California. Both Rios and Teron will battle it out for the vacant NABF title in the main event Saturday night in “Super Brawl Saturday Night” sponsored by Tecate and Top Rank Boxing and in association with Cavazos Boxing.
Rios trainer Robert Garcia is no stranger to the big time title fights. Garcia is a former IBF Super Featherweight champion and has trained the likes of Fernando Vargas and is currently working with former world champion Antonio Margarito at the “La Colonia” boxing gym. There is no doubt that the old coach will have a solid game plan for Rios come Saturday night.
Before the duo head back to California, they would like nothing better than to add a little piece of the hardware around Rios’s waste; the North American Boxing Federation lightweight title. However, standing in their way is Teron who also wants to take the title back east with him.
So fight fans, brace yourself as we are all on the brink of an all out “Super Brawl.”
